Full carbon frame and fork, size large. Ridden and raced heavily for two seasons by a then Cat4/5, now Cat3 cyclist. Some cosmetic, but no physical damage. According to Giant, these frames are ideal for riders between 5'11…

Just returned from Sydney. Got a Silver medal in my main race - the 500meter time trial improving on my bronze of last year. Lost the rainbow jersey by .09 second, but had my personal best time on a wooden indoor 250m track.
Great event that will move to Lisbon next year

Despite the falling mercury, there is a silver lining to autumn cycling in Chicago. The lakeshore path is suddenly empty and safe thanks to a mass exodus of casual cyclists. It's cool enough to wear wool every day. Cyclocross season is upon us. And most importantly, the cycling population of Hyde Park has dou…

It's always weird to see tents all over our home course.

At 406 racers, this was the largest cyclocross race in Chicago's history.

Yes, you did read that correctly.
UCVC's own Devon Haskell has signed with the top US women's cycling team, TIBCO, for the 2010 road season. She raced much of the 2009 season in France for a continental pro team as well as in Chicago for pro squad "team BH USA"; where she beat many of the top women racers in the world.
Devon has been a huge part of our club over the past 4 years (winning three NCAA DII national championships) and has recently moved to southern california to persue her racing c…

I'm not much of a time trial specialist, but in my disregard for doing things I'm actually good at (like drinking coffee and watching bike racing on TV) I decided to try my luck at the state championship 30K TT in Harvard, IL. Adam, Tim, Patrick, Brie, Quinn, and other Tim joined me for the race.
The weather was primed for a fast course; not too hot with a slight breeze. In my excitment about the race I hastily built a sweet TT rig from old and borrowed parts. I'd spent the previous week workin…

It was an inauspicious start, but at least we had miniature cupcakes.

Joel easily won the foot down contest, as expected.

Andrew, Anna, Rory and I rolled out early Sunday morning. The wind was brisk and the skies were grey.

We were all pretty groggy, so the going was slow.

Seven UCVCers plus a friend of the club made it through the August 8th 200km brevet sponsored by the
Great Lakes Randonneurs. Sadly, this time around I don't have any photographic evidence, but five folks wore the 2009 white UCVC kit and one wore the 2008 maroon. With the skies threatening a forecast for mid-morning thunderstorms, it didn't look like those white kits would be pristine for long.
By the 8am start time, the mercury had risen

The details aren't all worked out yet, but it looks like TATI will be returning as a formal sponsor of the UCVC for the 2009/10 season. One of the first things that I'm working on is a deal on a solid and affordable cyclocross bike for club members.
I know that there are several folks who've been kicking around the idea of cyclocross for a year or more, and I'd heartily recommend it. Not only does it extend the effective cycling season deep into winter, but we have the fortune to have a functio…

It looks like everyone else is too busy this week to post a write up of the brevet, so I'll tell my side of the story.
Seven of us carpooled Friday night, arriving at the lovely Delavan Super8 a bit after 10pm. The rooms are small but tidy, and the climate control leaves something to be desired, but the showers are nice.
Maris & Ari hid in their room, and Bernard was taxed from all the driving, so he decided to rest.…

I heard there were lots of stories from the epic 200Km brevet yesterday. It'd be great to hear how everyone did and hopefully we can get an even larger group to go up for the next one this summer....
I also need proof that this club is in fact a recreational cyling club and not just race oriented.

A few of the UCVCers traveled to Purdue last weekend for the collegiate road race held just west of Lafayette in the scenic countryside of central Indiana (where I grew up). The course was nice with roads that wind through the country and one very steep ascent and a matching descent on the opposite side of the 4.2 mile course. We had a very abbreviated crew, as many of our elite riders went to the Hillsboro Roubaix (and I'm hoping to see some race reports from them), but nonetheless, we had Luig…

Aspen, Francisco, Jesse, and I trekked out on Friday evening to Michigan for a fantastic collegiate cycling weekend. Not only were the races a lot of fun, they were also quite successful: with the four of us racing a total of 7 times, we landed 4 podium spots. I doubt any other team were as proportionally victorious.
The MSU road race was held around a 4.4 mile loop, including a 1.2 mile dirt road section. Following the corner out of the dirt section was a relatively short hill, a section shape…
